I am the Fat Triathlete.

I competed in my first triathlon in 2007 as part of a relay team, and was immediately hooked. I finished my first (and second) solo triathlon in 2008. In January 2009, I decided (for a number of reasons) to start taking control of my weight the old-fashioned way, through diet and exercise.

So these are my stories of tri training and weight loss, and maybe some other things as I see fit.

I was born and raised in southeastern Wisconsin, and still live in my hometown with my wife (Trimom) and my two daughters, nearly 4 and 2. I work for a local manufacturing company in the quality area, which I very much enjoy.

I came across your writing about Daniel Murry. I was very touched by your honesty, guts, and connection with the fallen fellow triathlete. I whole-heartedly believe in digging deep to get more out of life. I have made a mission and a business out of this philosophy. Life has handed me some horrendous pills to swallow. But I have always been an athlete, and something inside me (God) I believe causes me to take on new challenges so as to refuel with more gusto for what lies ahead. I read all of that about you in your writing. Keep on keeping on.
P.S. We have a youth minister at church who wants me to train him along with some teens for a mini-tri. Putting myself at risk is one thing, how do I let go of co-dependence of others decisions to do the same. This is what I know is good for others. It’s our best weapon against obesity. Yet I do have fears because of the size or abilities of those I train. Thank-you again for your writing and for listening to me here. Hey! Keep yourself, Trimom, and Daniel M. TRI-ing!
